Cindy Karasch:
Hi, this is Cindy Karasch with Alternative Senior Care, a home care company in central Minnesota. I am so excited to announce a new service being offered by Alternative Senior Care. But first, let me tell you a little story about how and why this service came about.
Cindy Karasch:
After years of taking care of seniors in our community, two years ago, Mike and I found ourselves taking care of our parents. Mike’s mom, and both of my parents were aging and really wanted to stay living in their homes. We started down a path that I had only observed from the role of a professional caregiver. Now we found ourselves in the role of a family caregiver, along with our siblings, some who live close by and could help, while others lived at a distance and could only observe.
Cindy Karasch:
As a family caregiver, we scheduled and went to doctor visits, set up medications. We modified things in the home, and at times tried to convince them that using a cane or a walker was a really good idea, but we quickly found out that our siblings who had never gone through this before struggled to understand the aging process and the options available to our parents.
Cindy Karasch:
So here we are two years later and all three of our parents have passed. Our mothers were able to die at home, surrounded by loving families and my father, he made one last trip to attend his granddaughter’s wedding, 24 hours before he died unexpectedly. What did we learn from this experience? Well, the number one thing we learned was having family to help during this time was a true blessing. We also learned that everyone’s aging journey is unique to only them and the aging journey can be complicated and overwhelming for the family and their loved ones.
Cindy Karasch:
We also learned that the average person doesn’t get to practice or learn how to navigate this journey, because by the time you get it figured out, the journey is over. Besides what we learned, we also had a lot of questions. How does a person with no family nearby navigate the aging process alone? Or how does a person working a full-time job find time to provide the care and assistance that their loved one needs during this aging journey?
Cindy Karasch:
We also wondered how could the average person who knows nothing about this journey help their loved one navigate the system. And lastly, the biggest question was, is there something that we at Alternative Senior Care can do to help these people?
Cindy Karasch:
So we’re really excited to announce our aging services coordination. With 15 years of professional experience and years of personal experience, our aging services coordinators can help you navigate the aging journey. As we roll out this new service, watch for more information on how our new aging service coordination can help seniors and their families in our communities. Thank you.
